With the next presidential election on the horizon, our first look at films and politics is through Ms. Goldwater's film on the life of her grandfather, Senator Barry Goldwater in "Mr. Conservative". The film traces the roots of Goldwater’s conservative philosophy, conveys how he united the conservative movement to lead it into the White House, and demonstrates how his consistently Libertarian mindset (pro-choice & pro-gay rights) led him to diverge from the Conservative party orthodoxy in the ‘80s and ‘90s, especially when the new religious right began its takeover of the Republican Party in the 1980s. More about the film can be found at Mr.Conservative.
