I am joined by social media expert Bardi Toto, who, when I first had a conversation with her several days ago, surprised me with so many ideas on social media I had never heard of before!
The buzz these days is all about how to use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and the how to of using these sites in some sort of magical way (with great ease) to promote you and your business and get RESULTS.
Yet there is a larger, and I think more important aspect about the use of social media with an objective of doing something meaningful with it. In my September 6th blog post, I brought up these points:
All media gets digitized, the Internet also becomes the mode of carriage for ALL other media.
Former members of the audience can now also be producers, and not just consumers.
All that means WE ALL have a voice, and that voice can be heard by EVERYONE and EVERYWHERE.
There is a young generation alive today that has grown up in a technological multimedia culture unprecedented since the birth of the arts. They have at their fingertips incredible creative tools that have the power to positively shape culture and future generations. This foundation of information in the Digital Age can show the current younger generations how to use media and the tools of technology to create a brighter future for all. It is up to us how wisely we can use these tools and not just look at short term personal gain.
